In the future, a sadistic gang leader is imprisoned and volunteers for a conduct-aversion experiment, but it doesn’t go as planned.
General information
“A Clockwork Orange” is a 1971 movie directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Burgess. The film is set in a dystopian future and follows the story of Alex DeLarge (played by Malcolm McDowell), a young man who leads a gang of “droogs” who engage in acts of ultra-violence and rape.
After being caught by the authorities, Alex undergoes a controversial treatment called the “Ludovico Technique,” which is meant to cure him of his violent tendencies. However, the treatment has unintended consequences and raises questions about free will and the ethics of using aversion therapy to control behavior.
The movie was controversial upon its release due to its graphic depictions of violence and sexuality, and its themes of societal decay and the dangers of government control. Despite this, it has become a cult classic and is considered one of Kubrick’s most iconic works.
