“Captain Phillips” is a 2013 American biographical drama film directed by Paul Greengrass and starring Tom Hanks as Richard Phillips, the captain of the MV Maersk Alabama, who was taken hostage by Somali pirates during the 2009 hijacking of the Maersk Alabama.

The film is based on the book “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea” by Richard Phillips and Stephan Talty. It was praised for its intense and suspenseful portrayal of the events and for Hanks’ performance as the titular character.

The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor for Barkhad Abdi, who played one of the lead Somali pirates. It was also nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Actor – Drama for Hanks.
