“Casino” is a 1995 American crime drama film directed by Martin Scorsese, starring Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone, and Joe Pesci. The movie is based on the non-fiction book “Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas” by Nicholas Pileggi, which chronicles the story of Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal, a professional sports handicapper who ran the Stardust, Fremont, and Hacienda casinos in Las Vegas in the 1970s and early 1980s. The film depicts the rise and fall of Sam “Ace” Rothstein (played by De Niro), a Jewish American gambling handicapper who is hired by the Italian American Mafia to oversee the day-to-day operations at the fictional Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas.
