“Doctor Sleep” is a 2019 horror movie directed by Mike Flanagan, based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Stephen King. The movie serves as a sequel to King’s 1977 novel “The Shining” and Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 film adaptation.

The movie follows an adult Dan Torrance (played by Ewan McGregor), who is struggling with alcoholism and the traumatic events of his childhood at the Overlook Hotel. Dan uses his psychic abilities, known as “the shining,” to comfort dying patients at a hospice where he works. He eventually connects with a young girl, Abra Stone (played by Kyliegh Curran), who possesses even stronger psychic abilities.

Meanwhile, a group of psychic vampires, known as the True Knot, are hunting down children with the shining to feed on their energy. Led by Rose the Hat (played by Rebecca Ferguson), the True Knot become aware of Abra’s powers and set their sights on her. Dan and Abra must work together to stop the True Knot and confront the ghosts of Dan’s past at the abandoned Overlook Hotel.

“Doctor Sleep” received mixed reviews from critics and performed moderately at the box office. Despite its connection to “The Shining,” the movie is notable for its efforts to reconcile King’s original vision with Kubrick’s adaptation.
