Metropolis is a silent science-fiction movie released in 1927, directed by Fritz Lang and produced by Erich Pommer. The movie is set in a futuristic city, divided into two classes: the wealthy upper class that lives in luxurious skyscrapers and the working-class that lives underground and operates the city’s machines.

The story follows Freder, the son of the city’s ruler, who discovers the plight of the working-class after he falls in love with Maria, a woman who leads a group of workers. Freder becomes determined to bridge the gap between the two classes and bring peace to the city.

However, Freder’s father, who is also the city’s mastermind, is opposed to the idea and hires a scientist to create a robot that resembles Maria, with the aim of using it to incite violence and further divide the classes. The plan works, and chaos ensues in the city, with the workers destroying the machines that power the city.

Ultimately, Freder is able to overcome his father’s plan and bring the city back to order, with the working-class and the upper class coming together to rebuild the city and bridge the gap between the classes.

Metropolis is widely regarded as a groundbreaking film and a masterpiece of German expressionism. It has influenced numerous filmmakers and has had a lasting impact on popular culture.
