Minority Report is a science fiction movie released in 2002, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise. The movie is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick.
The movie is set in Washington D.C. in the year 2054, where a specialized police department called “PreCrime” has been established to prevent murders before they occur. The system relies on the use of “precogs”, genetically altered individuals who are able to see into the future and predict crimes before they happen.
Tom Cruise plays John Anderton, the head of the PreCrime division, who is haunted by the disappearance of his son and becomes embroiled in a conspiracy that threatens to expose flaws in the PreCrime system. The movie raises philosophical questions about free will, determinism, and the ethics of pre-emptive law enforcement.
The movie received critical acclaim for its innovative visual effects, complex storyline, and thought-provoking themes. It was nominated for several awards and won a Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film.
