As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.
“Pacific Rim” is a 2013 science-fiction monster movie directed by Guillermo del Toro. The film is set in the future, where giant monsters known as Kaiju have emerged from an interdimensional portal at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and are threatening to destroy humanity. To combat these monsters, humans have created giant robots called Jaegers, which are piloted by two people who are mentally linked through a neural interface.
The movie follows the story of Raleigh Becket (played by Charlie Hunnam), a former Jaeger pilot who is called back into action to help defend humanity against the Kaiju threat. He is partnered with Mako Mori (played by Rinko Kikuchi), a rookie pilot with a tragic past, as they fight to save the world.
The film received generally positive reviews and was praised for its special effects, action sequences, and world-building. It was followed by a sequel, “Pacific Rim: Uprising,” which was released in 2018.
