“Ran” is a 1985 Japanese epic historical drama film directed and co-written by Akira Kurosawa. The film is a reimagining of William Shakespeare’s play “King Lear” and is set in feudal Japan. The story follows an aging warlord named Hidetora Ichimonji, who decides to divide his kingdom among his three sons, leading to a power struggle and a tragic downfall. “Ran” is considered one of Kurosawa’s masterpieces and is known for its stunning cinematography, use of color, and epic battle scenes.
