An undercover cop and a mole in the police attempt to identify each other while infiltrating an Irish gang in South Boston.
“The Departed” is a 2006 American crime thriller movie directed by Martin Scorsese, and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg. The movie is based on the 2002 Hong Kong movie “Infernal Affairs” and follows the story of an undercover cop and a mole in the police department who are trying to uncover each other’s identities.
DiCaprio plays Billy Costigan, a young cop who goes undercover to infiltrate the Boston Irish-American organized crime gang led by Frank Costello, played by Nicholson. At the same time, Damon plays Colin Sullivan, a member of Costello’s gang who has infiltrated the police department and is working as a mole. The two men race to uncover each other’s identities and protect their own cover.
“The Departed” was a critical and commercial success, winning four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Scorsese, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Editing. The movie’s fast-paced action, gripping storyline, and outstanding performances have made it a classic of modern cinema.
