“The Ring” is a 2002 American supernatural horror film directed by Gore Verbinski and starring Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson, and David Dorfman. The film is a remake of the 1998 Japanese horror film “Ring” (also known as “Ringu”).

The story revolves around a cursed videotape that, once watched, will result in the viewer’s death within seven days. When a young girl dies after watching the tape, her aunt Rachel (Naomi Watts), a journalist, investigates the story and eventually watches the tape herself. She then has only seven days to unravel the mystery of the tape and find a way to break the curse before it’s too late.

“The Ring” was a critical and commercial success, and is considered a modern classic of the horror genre. It spawned a franchise of sequels and adaptations, including the 2005 sequel “The Ring Two” and the 2017 American film “Rings”.
