In a dystopian America, a falsely convicted policeman gets his shot at freedom when he must forcibly participate in a TV game show where convicts, runners, must battle killers for their freedom.
General information
“The Running Man” is a science fiction action movie released in 1987, directed by Paul Michael Glaser and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, and Richard Dawson. The film is loosely based on a novel by Stephen King, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.
The movie is set in a dystopian future where the United States is a totalitarian state, and the government uses a brutal game show called “The Running Man” as a means of controlling the population. The game show involves convicted criminals running for their lives in a maze filled with deadly traps while being pursued by professional killers known as “stalkers.”
Schwarzenegger plays Ben Richards, a wrongly convicted police officer who is forced to participate in the game show. He teams up with a resistance fighter named Amber Mendez (Alonso) to expose the truth about the show and bring down the corrupt government.
“The Running Man” was a commercial success and has since become a cult classic. The movie is known for its over-the-top action scenes, dark humor, and commentary on the dangers of unchecked government power.
