General information
“To Kill a Mockingbird” is a classic American film released in 1962, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Harper Lee. The film was directed by Robert Mulligan and starred Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the racially divided town of Maycomb, Alabama during the Great Depression.
The film follows the story of Atticus’s daughter, Scout, as she learns about the unjust treatment of African Americans in her community, particularly the trial of Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. Through her father’s example, Scout learns about standing up for what is right, even in the face of prejudice and hatred.
“To Kill a Mockingbird” is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, and it received numerous accolades, including three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Peck. It is considered an important work in American culture and a powerful statement on racial injustice.
